In 1935 the Tootsie company was struggling to pay the bills and the company was in big trouble. Fearing the loss of their biggest customer, the company that made the packaging for Tootsie bars bought the entire company. After a few tweaks to the recipe the Tootsie brand quickly resumed its role in the candy world.
