The original Fanta is reputed to have been created in 1940 by Max Keith, the manager of the German Coca Cola bottling company, when he was faced with the dilemma of a ban on shipping of Coca Cola syrup during World War II. He came up with the idea of a fruit flavoured alternative and ran a competition for employees to name the new beverage – the winning entry being Fanta!
